Tilia Labs of Ottawa, Ontario was the lone Canadian winner of a sought-after 2019 InterTech Technology Award from the Printing Industries of America (PIA – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). The software provider was one of only 10 technologies selected to receive the prestigious Award. Many more were considered this year, said PIA, but only those listed below were deemed to be truly innovative – and are expected to have a significant impact on the current printing and graphic communications industry.
An independent panel of judges deliberated over “an outstanding selection of technology nominations that highlighted the dynamic nature of our industry.” As another sign of the industry’s direction, more than half of the awarded technologies (including two high-speed inkjet presses) produce or support digital printing. In addition, the judges recognized technologies that improved the quality and sustainability of flexographic printing, reduced cutting errors, and introduced artificial intelligence to layout and imposition software.
Tilia Phoenix version 7.0 is an imposition and planning software solution designed for a range of work including packaging, labels, cards, tags, wide-format and commercial printing. It’s equally powerful as a pure imposition system for creating print-ready layouts, or exclusively as a planning tool to estimate and report the production costs involved with printing a set of orders. Its true aim, said its creators, is to unite imposition and planning, thus creating a seamless workflow – from initial quote all the way to RIP. Phoenix generates fast, accurate estimates, thus reducing pre-press time, automating error-prone tasks, maximizing media usage, and reducing post-press complexities. A key advantage of Phoenix is that it’s designed to work well with both square-cut and irregular-shaped designs, enabling users to use the same tools across a variety of different work types.
