Wide Open Throttle Graphics (Lacombe, Alberta) has won a coveted 2021 Printing United Alliance Premier Print Award for its outstanding graphic design and printing. The complete list of Printing United Alliance Premier Print Award winners, which was officially released September 14, 2021, honoured excellence in 71 different categories across a wide range of print production – including screen, offset, digital, wide-format, flexographic, gravure, and more. While the alliance received thousands of entries in this year’s competition, only 64 award winners were selected. Wide Open Throttle Graphics won the Wrap Installer Best-of-Category Award in the Wide-Format category for its themed “Abominable Voodoo” wrap project – all printed on a Roland DG TrueVIS VG2-540 54” wide-format eco-solvent printer/cutter on Substance Incorporated’s UltraCurve X1 vinyl.
The themed wrap project included designing, producing and applying graphics to the 2019 Ram 1500 Sport Pickup Truck, a Cross Traxx Sled Deck, a 2019 Ski Doo Summit, and a 2020.5 Ski Doo Summit Factory Turbo. This multi-vehicle-wrap project was made more challenging by an extremely tight deadline. About 75% of the job was completed in just 48 hours, with an extra 4 hours added later to wrap the Turbo. Judges said they were extremely impressed with the use of the underlying colour to make the vehicle wraps stand out, as well as with the overall intricacy of the designs.
