Boss Logo Print & Graphics (Markham, Ontario) has become the first trade shop in Canada to invest in a Scodix Ultra Pro with the Foil Station Module “after more than six months of rigorous testing of all of the comparable models on the market.” In the end, it was the quality of both the print and the press that made the decision for Kapil Sunak, CEO and President of Boss Logo. “We felt the build quality, compared to what was on the market, was far superior,” he noted. “The feeding system was far superior to the competitors, and how it was able to feed all our different papers on the feed table and the paper handling, was exceptional. This machine felt like a tank, as if I was investing in something heavy duty.” Unlike other machines Sunak had tried, he was impressed that there were no registration issues, and that paper handling was smooth and more reliable. It was also an improvement on the system they were using previously, a machine that required a flexo plate which was both expensive and slow. This older system required Boss Logo to outsource the plates. “Now that we’ve brought this in, we can do it all in-house, along with foil stamping – we’re very excited,” added Sunak.
Boss Logo is a trade printing shop that’s been in business for over 20 years, specializing in offset, digital and large-format printing with an extensive product offering including business cards, postcards, pocket folders, packaging and more. The company is now able to produce the same work, but all in-house with a faster turnaround in finer detail, and with special effects that weren’t possible before. “This press allows us to make the print sexier..… honestly,” he added. “It’s just amazing what this Scodix press can do. We’ve already had success doing digital foil stamping and spot UV directly on top of iGen printed material – and the fact that we can spot UV and foil stamp sheets as large as 21″ x 31” is just amazing.” The Scodix Ultra Pro Foil has been up and running for just over three months now. The trade printer focused on offering it to their business card customers first, as they worked through the training phase. But now they’re ready to roll out the capabilities to all of their numerous clients and product types.
The Scodix Ultra Pro Digital Enhancement Press features quality enhancement effects for short and long runs, enabling high productivity and support for offset, digital and laminated print. The press also comes with an automatic mechanism that enables the operator to switch rapidly and simply, between up to 3 different polymers – thus further improving performance and productivity. The Scodix Foil Station is an optional module that runs inline with the Scodix Ultra Pro Digital Press, delivering “unmatched foil enhancement capabilities, including high gloss, embossed, and a variety of densities for short to medium runs using a highly advanced, highly-efficient digital process,” the OEM added. “Scodix Foil is ideal for trade and commercial printers coping with short to medium runs, who have to outsource the foil application, or use a long and expensive make-ready process – including molds and dies, as well as for converters doing high-end short to medium runs.
