The company is showing its broad range of innovative, cost-effective and eco-friendly solutions that enable printers to offer their clients competitive, unique and high-quality output at lower cost.

“Digital print is certainly growing but offset will remain the backbone of the printing industry,” said Stefaan Vanhooren, President of Agfa Graphics. “At drupa we are presenting a broad range of innovative prepress solutions. In addition, our strong software offering confirms our vision that workflow and connectivity will be crucial for the success of our customers. For the industrial print and sign and display industries, we offer inkjet solutions that enable our customers to print efficiently on a wide variety of substrates delivering stunning quality. The star of our seven-strong product showing is the unique and versatile :M-Press Leopard flatbed press. It is running live, demonstrating its exceptionally wide range of capabilities.”

The company’s presence at drupa focuses on four primary groups: industrial printers, sign & display printers, commercial printers and newspaper publishers. Leading the way is its revolutionary :M-Press Leopard industrial print system. With new features and the ability to print on various substrates up to 5 cm thick in any size up to 1.6 m x 3.3 m, the fast-turnaround press offers the potential to move beyond screen applications into other industrial applications such as decoration and furniture, packaging and homewares. The system outrivals any conventional or digital alternative in cost and quality, says Agfa.

Agfa is also demonstrating the :Anapurna series and two new :Jeti 3020 Titan UV printing systems. One of the two :Jeti 3020 Titans will be shown in a 36-head configuration, demonstrating productive CMYK printing in combination with a strong white-ink application. The large 2m x 3m mounting bed supports both rigid and thin flexible material and is suited both for opaque and transparent material. It also supports multiple-up jobs and printing on smaller objects.

The second :Jeti 3020 Titan is a new system with a 48-head configuration using 8 heads for each colour. It prints at the same high speeds for roll-to-roll and rigid materials, which makes it the most versatile wide-format printing solution on the market, according to Agfa. Also on display will be Agfa Graphics’ range of UV inks for industrial and sign & display applications.

For commercial printers, Agfa is extending its ThermoFuse-based prepress system to high-volume printers. The :Azura TS system helps commercial printers to run more efficiently and reduce their ecological footprint. The :Azura CX125 COU (Clean-Out Unit) reduces gum consumption considerably and extends bath life. It can handle plate volumes up to 40,000 m2 per year.

The newest version of Agfa Graphics’ award-winning workflow management suite, :Apogee 8 is also being demonstrated. :Apogee 8 features greater connectivity, drives an ever-growing range of digital presses, supports 64-bit systems and offers optimized imposition for large-volume web-printing systems.

:Apogee StoreFront is a new cloud-based, web-to-print software solution that enables printers to market their services and products more efficiently. It makes it easy to create online stores for both printed and non-printed products. :Apogee StoreFront is ideal for printers who wish to attract a broader audience by offering additional services without investing in hardware.

For newspaper publishing, Agfa Graphics is introducing two new high-speed platesetters. The :Advantage N PL HS (Pallet Load, High-Speed) and the :Advantage N TR HS (Trolley Load, High-Speed). Both produce up to 350 printing plates per hour. At drupa, the :Advantage N PL HS is running live. With a completely new design, it can store more than 6,000 plates plus an additional cassette in a fully automatic setting.

As far as sustainability, the company is showing systems that enable printers to eliminate toxic chemicals, reduce waste, lower ink and water consumption and save energy. www.agfagraphics.com.

Presstek

Presstek is showing the 75DI Digital Offset Press and an array of Digital Thermal Plate Solutions, amongst other technologies. Specifically, the company is promoting a 5-colour 75DI with inline aqueous coater. The 75DI was first shown at IPEX 2010 as a prototype and is now a commercial product with successful installations on three continents in a variety of shops. The press has also earned strong interest from folding carton printers. The 75DI goes from digital file to sellable sheet in 6 minutes and prints at 16,000 impressions per hour. It’s the most economical press on the market for colour jobs from 500 to 20,000 impressions, says Presstek. It’s available in 4-colour to 10-colour configurations and a full range of productivity-enhancing options can be added.

“The combination of the 75DI and our new product announcements provide exciting possibilities for Presstek’s existing and future customers,” said Stan Freimuth, Presstek’s Chairman, President & CEO.

Presstek is also featuring a new chemistry-free CTP plate for sheetfed and web waterless printing applications. This new plate offers excellent on-press performance and will raise the efficiency of prepress departments by eliminating time-consuming steps, variables and costs that are associated with production of other waterless plates. Once imaged, only a simple cleaning with water is required prior to mounting the plates on press.

“The Presstek plate portfolio offers solutions that encompass a wide range of printing needs with high quality plates that can be imaged on industry-standard 830 nm thermal platesetters, including Presstek devices,” explained Freimuth. “This, combined with our outstanding service and support, has us well positioned to supply larger shops, and offers a terrific alternative to the traditional plate suppliers in the market.”

The company is also displaying a breakthrough colour calibration and defect-detection technology that inspects each sheet with the press operating at full speed and makes any necessary adjustments on the fly.www.presstek.com.
