Every so often in this business – in between the usual dire industry predictions and shop closings – you get a chance to celebrate the success of major players in our industry spawned by creativity, innovation, dedication and exceptional customer service.
Such was the case June 16 when I joined about 150 printing industry colleagues at Mi5 Print & Digital Communications’ official celebration of the move to its expansive new 180,000-square-foot production facility in Mississauga, Ontario. The original move to the new location at 1550 Caterpillar Road occurred in February.

From 2 pm to 7:30 pm, guests were treated to drinks, a delicious buffet and snacks, live jazz courtesy of Paul Wiggins Jazz Ensemble, an oyster bar and an ocean of smiles and laughs. Derek McGeachie (CEO), Steve Tahk (Executive V.P. and General Manager), Al Monteath (Executive V.P. of Sales & Operations) and Mi5 Print’s Sheryl Sauder and other employees, welcomed guests and mingled with the crowd.
One of the highlights of the event was Avanti’s Stephen McWilliam, decked out in a well-pressed kilt and playing the bagpipes, officially ushering in company executives who subsequently spoke briefly to those in attendance. The afternoon was capped off with special draws for some great gifts, and a free bottle of wine to all those who attended.
