HP introduces first customizable wall covering that needs no topcoat

HP’s PVC-free Durable Smooth Wall Paper is “the only product in the industry that is Type II-compliant after being printed with HP Latex Inks with no need for lamination,” said the OEM. It was developed for use in commercial and residential environments that are subject to wear and tear – such as hotels, apartment and office buildings, schools, residences and more. Unlike similar products, HP’s new wallpaper provides durability without the need for a protective topcoat.
In a statement, HP said it’s taking advantage of the many opportunities offered by the growing décor industry, especially the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) segment. The wallpaper “allows everyone to be a designer. Creating a dramatic personalized space no longer requires an expert eye or a hefty disposable income. Living spaces and work spaces are being transformed into works of art that reflect the customer’s interest, taste and lifestyle. Office lobbies can be transformed with a dramatic floor-to-ceiling mural showcasing the company’s product(s). Restaurants can print their own photos and graphics to set the right mood. Retail stores can create wall art that strengthens their brand. These are all examples of the creative power of this unique new product,” HP added.
Wall coverings produced are odourless, mold-resistant and mildew-resistant. The product prints with HP Latex Inks that carry multiple environmental credentials, and works with common primers, pastes, finishing and installation methods with no need for a topcoat. It’s 17-mil thick and is available in 42” and 54” widths.
