Lewiecki explores prepress benefits of Adobe PDF-2 at DIA’s January 18 meeting

Adobe’s Mark Lewiecki was the keynote speaker at the DIA’s meeting January 18.

The Digital Imaging Association (DIA) meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Spicers in Vaughan, Ontario, delved deeply into some of the new PDF 2.0 capabilities for print – including Black Point Compensation (BPC), spectral colour definition of spot colours via CxF, and page-level Output Intent profiles. Mark Lewiecki, Senior Product Manager for the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE), marked the 10th anniversary of APPE with an overview of Adobe and its beginnings, product updates, and then discussed potential workflow applications for the new PDF 2.0 capabilities – which are scheduled for release in April of this year.
He also explored the often complicated science of colour and discussed how substrates, prepress workflow, output devices and even room lighting can affect the final colours on a given printed piece. After his presentation, he not only answered audience questions, but asked those in attendance for feedback and cooperation in making PDF 2.0 the most helpful it could be for commercial printers and packaging printers in the future.
