Manroland Web offers InlineDensity Control for retrofits

InlineDensity Control (IDC) from Manroland Web Systems is a high-precision, fully automated control system that determines true ink density values in a single measurement across the entire width of the web – and optimizes the printing process while minimizing waste. The technology is used in about 90 % of Manroland heatset commercial presses and is available as a stand-alone version as well as with a motor-driven traverse. InlineDensity Control regulates ink density based on colour markers in a print control strip. High-resolution cameras, LED flash lighting, extremely short measuring cycles, premium system components, and simple operation make this “an exceptionally high-performing system.”

High speeds are ensured by measuring control modules arranged across the full width of the press, thus capturing the entire measuring strip in a single reading. Furthermore, the high frequency of the colourimetry throughout the entire production process generates a comprehensive quality report. This quality evaluation takes place in the Printnetwork Monitor – the tool for technical analyses and nominal and actual value comparisons that takes production monitoring to a new level of efficiency. InlineDensity Control (IDC) is currently the fastest system on the market. Overall, it increases quality through more stable ink feeding and can be fully integrated into the printnetwork environment. Its automated colour control reduces employee workloads. It’s also the only system on the market with Ductor Control.
“We wanted to offer our experience in ink density control in a low-cost control system. Customers deciding to retrofit the system will enjoy increased quality and process reliability while saving resources,” said Florian Fejfar, Product Manager for Color & Quality at Manroland Web Systems. In explaining the motivation to develop ink density control, Fejfar continued: “IDC uses traversing measurement modules. This allows us to offer a much lower cost price at the same tried-and-tested measurement quality and precision. We’re now also able to offer uncomplicated upgrades to existing press equipment.”
InlineDensity Control (IDC) is one of many Inline Control systems developed by Grapho Metronic (a subsidiary of Manroland Web Systems GmbH) and Manroland Web Systems. The system includes ink and cut-off register, fan-out, and lateral web offset – all of which can be fully integrated. Munich-Germany-based Grapho Metronic is a specialist in precise colourimetry for commercial, newspaper and sheetfed printing. For over 50 years, its measurement and control systems have reduced resource consumption while ensuring consistent quality in the production process. Special application fields include spectral measurement technology, colour density and layer thickness detection, register and image recognition at a high frequency and extremely high substrate speeds.
