Chroma Smart 2S high-definition technology combines dual-sided printing on corrugated cardboard in one single pass. Its modular design allows users to easily add printing units and open new business fields, said the OEM. Further innovations are planned for next year. The state-of-the-art, modularly retrofittable technology not only significantly increases efficiency, but also substantially reduces production costs. The new High Board Line Chroma 2S prints at speeds up to 10,000 sheets per hour, and foundation pits or changes are not necessary. The press operator has easy access to change the cliché in all printing units. The number of colours is freely configurable, and the bottom printing units momentarily not in production, can be prepared for follow-up processes without stopping the press.
Luca Celotti, CEO of Koenig & Bauer Celmacch, added: “For box factories, it has become essential to be able to print quickly and at low cost, even inside the box, to get the so-called ‘wow-effect’ during unboxing, or to simply print how-to-use instructions. This tendency has completely transformed the cardboard industry, with a particular focus on corrugated packaging.” The focus on this growth market, and on both conventional and digital packaging printing, will be a key pillar of the Koenig & Bauer strategy moving forward. After re-entering the field of corrugated cardboard printing, the OEM partnered with Italian Company Celmacch in September of 2022. Both companies have over 40 years of experience in processing corrugated cardboard, and more than 200 years of printing technology on different levels.
