Print Finishing Partners (Volo, Illinois) has released a new system designed for open glue pots that can keep a print shop’s PUR glue fresh when not in use. It consists of two units – a control unit/supply and a large cover. When the PUR production is done, or needs to be interrupted, users can pull out the glue pot, put the cover over the pot and turn the system on. The system will then create a dry-air environment inside the cover and monitor its status. When you need the glue pot again, you just take the cover off and put the glue pot with the same PUR back in. The company added that bookbinders using this system have not had to clean their glue pot for up to 3 months – and there have been almost 40 successful installations worldwide. Benefits include less PUR waste, less time for cleaning and dismantling, more production uptime, less time to prepare and fill the pot, less wear on the coating and mechanical parts on the pot, less PUR fumes affecting employees, very little maintenance, better flexibility for PUR production, and up to 72 hours of conservation time.
