Prisco releases new Soft Feel UV coating and expands Charlotte facility

Prisco Printers’ Service has launched Prisco E-Cure SP-028 Soft Feel UV Coating – one of a growing range of energy-curable specialty coatings in the company’s portfolio that increases the design options available for creating “unique catalogue images, brochures and other printed products.” It’s an energy-curable coating that increases the tactile appeal of an image by imparting a velvety texture similar to felt. A soft-feel coating (sometimes referred to as soft-touch, velvet or gentle-touch), was previously only available in aqueous versions. The product offers the “instant curing” and durability benefits of energy-curable coatings with the addition of a soft-to-the-touch sensation. E-Cure SP-028 also provides a fingerprint-resistant barrier and protects the printed sheet from scuffmarks during subsequent finishing operations.

“Prisco E-Cure SP-028 Soft Feel UV Coating contains 100% UV curable solids, making it one of the first true UV curable coatings of its type on the market,” said Bob Srnovrsnik, National Product Manager, Coatings. “Many soft-feel products that claim to be UV are actually a hybrid combination of UV and water-based components. Those competitive products still suffer from long dwell-time requirements, drying heat tolerance issues and limited scuff resistance of aqueous coatings. With Prisco’s product, drying is virtually instantaneous and there are no more concerns regarding scuffing and softening. This offers the end-user ease of handling and the confidence that printed products will meet and exceed customer expectations.”
Prisco has also announced the expansion of its manufacturing facility for pressroom coatings in Charlotte, NC. The 50,000-square-foot facility, opened in 2002, manufactures coatings used in offset, flexographic and gravure printing. Overall, Prisco increased its manufacturing capacity by more than 40% to better serve the high-volume segment of the industry.
