Toshiba America Business Solutions has introduced its new desktop BFV-4 Thermal Barcode Printer series for on-demand labels. The line is aimed primarily at transportation, logistics, healthcare and retail environments. The printers feature a compact, top-loading, clamshell design weighing in at less than 5 ½ pounds that facilitates sharing between departments, or is ideal any place where space is limited. Available in both thermal transfer (BFV-4T) and direct thermal (BFV-4D) formats, both printers come standard with USB and Ethernet connectivity with optional wireless 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth, allowing for label printing from other locations without cables or wiring.
“VDC forecasts high single-digit growth for desktop printers as these take share away from industrial alternatives due to increased demand for low-to-mid-volume barcode labeling in healthcare, logistics and retail,” said Richa Gupta, Senior Analyst at VDC Research. “Toshiba’s competitively priced BFV-4 line is designed to address this demand while also potentially giving the company access to new accounts with its brand-agnostic approach to printer emulation.” The BFV-4T printer’s expanded ribbon capacity is capable of using a high-capacity, 300-metre ribbon. It’s also backwards-compatible with its predecessor, Toshiba’s B-EV4 printer, which holds smaller 100-metere ribbons.
With a maximum speed of 6 inches per second, the B-FV4 series deliver up to 57 4” x 6”-inch labels per minute. Toshiba’s latest thermal barcode printers also feature emulations such as ZPL, EPL, DPL and IPL for seamless and efficient integration within any organization’s existing operation. Users may easily switch emulations via Toshiba’s settling tool utility. “The introduction of our BFV-4 series provides the necessary complement to our existing thermal barcode printer line,” said Bill Melo, Toshiba America Business Solution’s Chief Marketing executive. “The availability of our new thermal barcode printers now enables us to fully address our customers’ desire for added mobility and efficiency, while also providing a fairly compelling TCO.”
The BFV-4T and BFV-4D are now available for purchase through authorized Toshiba dealers. The wireless configurations will be available in the first quarter of 2016.
