X-Rite, a global leader in colour science and technology, and its subsidiary Pantone, will hold their 2018 Fundamentals of Colour and Appearance Training Seminar in 13 locations across North America. The two-day seminar helps attendees understand colour theory and appearance science in order to implement colour quality standards in their organizations. Topics covered will include visual evaluation of colour, communicating colour specifications, and colour tolerances and instrumentation. X-Rite added that today, many brands and manufacturers are using metallic, sparkle, foil or other special-effect finishes and varnishes to differentiate products and meet consumer demands. These finishes go beyond colour to appearance, said X-Rite, and require a new approach to colour specifications and management in order to reduce errors in production and improve quality control.
“We’ve expanded our popular colour theory training to include appearance science, providing attendees with an understanding of how texture, gloss, transparency and special-effect finishes can impact a material’s appearance and lead to errors in production,” said Murphy Keeley, General Manager Americas, X-Rite. “X-Rite is very excited to be the only company offering this level of detailed training to brand owners, specifiers and quality control professionals. It’s essential that anyone working with colour understand both colour and material appearance characteristics in order to improve specification, communication and quality control requirements for today’s complex materials.”
About the Seminar. The Fundamentals of Colour and Appearance Training Series incorporates decades of colour management experience and best practices, and will be presented by X-Rite colour experts. This interactive seminar is ideal for colour specifiers, quality control professionals, lab technicians and anyone who evaluates or approves colour. Attendees can register for either the full two-day seminar or one of the individual sessions:
- Day One: Fundamentals of Colour and Appearance (FOCA) training delves into the foundational elements of colour theory and appearance science, the leading techniques for effective colour management, as well as new ways to evaluate appearance characteristics. Attendees will learn how to measure, read and evaluate colour data in order to improve the speed and reliability of colour communications across their workflow.
- Day Two: Fundamentals of Instrumentation and Quality Control (FIQC) is a hands-on workshop where attendees use X-Rite spectrophotometres, light booths and software to create colour standards, develop appropriate colour tolerances, measure samples against target colours, and analyze the results.
The seminar series begins on Wednesday, February 21 in Nashville, TN. The Toronto Seminar will be held April 11-12 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel, located at 901 Dixon Road.
