Toppan Forms becomes the biggest Kodak Prosper customer worldwide with fifth press

Will Mansfield and Eric Owen of Kodak (second and fourth from left respectively), celebrate the Prosper 6000C sale with executives from Toppan at drupa 2016.

Kodak has confirmed the sale of a fifth Kodak Prosper 6000C Press to Japan-based Toppan Forms Company Limited. The deal, completed at drupa 2016, will see the printing giant and leading multi-national information management company become the world’s largest Kodak Prosper user when the Japanese market’s first Kodak Prosper 6000C Press is finally installed. Toppan Forms will utilize its new press for variable textbook and business mail printing.
“Our existing presses have been running at full production, and the addition of a fifth Prosper Press will enable us to continue our path of steady growth and best serve our customers across multiple markets,” said Akira Kameyama, Senior Managing Director and General Manager at Toppan Forms. “This investment reflects our confidence in Kodak Stream Inkjet Technology and the overwhelming printing productivity it delivers.”

“We’re delighted to strengthen our relationship with one of the global print industry’s leading print service providers, and will continue working closely with them to ensure they capitalize on all the benefits the Prosper 6000C Press delivers,” said Philip Cullimore, President of Kodak’s Enterprise Inkjet Systems Division.
Toppan Forms’ extensive technology in the business forms and data print service fields covers a wide variety of information-based businesses – such as integration of printed materials and electronic documents, information media such as RFID and IC, and development of products compatible with printed electronics technologies.
With innovations in transport, drying and writing systems, combined with advanced press management technology, Prosper 6000 Presses deliver high levels of reliability, print speed and application flexibility. The Kodak Prosper 6000C Press is aimed at commercial print applications requiring high ink laydowns. The Kodak Prosper 6000P Press is designed specifically for publishing applications such as books and newspapers that typically use lightweight paper and low-to-medium ink laydowns.

Both presses print at speeds of up to 1,000 feet per minute on matted and uncoated papers with a duty cycle of 90 million A4 top quality pages per month. An enhanced drying capability also allows heavy weight glossy and silk stock to be printed on the 6000C Press at 650 feet per minute. The presses are powered by an advanced Intelligent Print System (IPS) that continuously monitors, evaluates and adjusts operations to ensure “exceptional quality output.” With the improved IPS, the presses can monitor and instantly correct colour registration. The presses’ writing system runs on Kodak’s newly formulated nanotechnology inks, offering “a greater colour gamut and delivering print quality that rivals offset output on a wide range of uncoated, coated and glossy papers,” said the company.
