November was an extremely busy month in the world of print events … with enough award shows, conferences and tradeshows to keep you thinking about your business all month long! Firstly, a big congratulations to all of the winners at the Canadian Print Awards. In particular we are so lucky to have, as a part of our community, engaged print industry leaders like Carl Pauptit (Lifetime Achievement Award), Don Gain Sr. (Community Leader of the Year Award), Nikos Kallas (Emerging Leader of the Year Award), and Peter Cober (Printing Leader of the Year Award). I find it amazing that each and every one of the printers is a son, father or both to another amazing printer. The companies they each represent have long-standing family traditions with exceptional values, which is much to be proud of.
I also wanted to thank all of those who made it to our Print Community Forum. I had the wonderful opportunity of speaking and hosting a panel at the conference. A big thank you to my co-presenter Lee Eldridge (C.J. Group of Companies), as well as panelists Todd Cober (Cober Evolving Solutions) and Chris Smyth (Ryerson University). It was also wonderful to watch Dr. Joe Webb present! I have to say that the Dr. Doom persona he is known for was quite chipper for the Toronto visit.
As for the issue … it’s holiday season! Take a look at our year in review article to help reflect for the year to come. Check out how to better deal with email (a New Year’s resolution perhaps). Read about the pros and cons of investing in RRSPs (since ‘tis the season). You can even take a look at some print related gift ideas with our Inspired Projects article about custom printed labels. As for my print geek gift suggestions I love the Tyvek wallets by Dyno Mighty (www.dynomighty.com), as well as wood prints from the Toronto-based company resurfaced (www.resurfaced.ca).
Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season!
