Lucky ‘13

This issue kicks off 2013. I don’t know how many of you are superstitious but I’m going to name it a lucky ’13! I’m excited about all of the topics we have in store for you this year. To keep things fresh and exciting we would like to introduce some new columns as well as revive some past favourites. In response to popular demand Diana Brown will write a monthly “Social Media Spotlight” column. Each month she will cycle through the many popular social media sites and explain what they can do for your business and how. This month her focus is Facebook. I can’t wait for the Pinterest spotlight at the end of this year. I’m definitely a Pinterest junkie (be careful checking it out…I warn you it’s very addictive). For example check out instaprint.me, a location based photo printer for parties I discovered on Pinterest!
In addition to this new column, we recognize that in the printing industry many of us suffer from geeky gadget obsessions. Starting in the next issue we will feature some of the inventive, inspired and ingenious gadgetry in our industry. I’ve already seen a preview of the incredible paper engineering feat that will be showcased in March and it is great!
Coming back into the mix will be our “For the Record” interview column. We are excited to get out there and talk to you about your businesses, your opinions and to share your lessons learned with the rest of our industry friends. This month Diana has interviewed Stephen McWilliam, Executive Vice President of Avanti. We would like to encourage you to contribute your thoughts to this column online. Tony Curcio will continue to provide you up to date news and facts about the different parts of our industry. He will also continue to write about a variety of consumable and equipment topics relevant to the tools and resources you use to get the job done.
We also have some wonderful lead articles lined up this year, from online community marketing to smart packaging to digital media and more. Our focus during this very lucky ’13 year is innovation from every angle. We are excited that printers we speak to are engaging with the changing landscape of our industry. We hope that this well-rounded editorial approach will help you provide more unique solutions to your customers.
Lastly, I would like to invite you to participate in a couple of important events happening at Ryerson. Firstly, coming up on March 7th is our yearly job fair for intern and graduate students. You can find more information at www.gcmjobfair.com. We also have for your viewing pleasure a webinar series covering ten exciting graphic arts topics. You can join us online on February 5th and 12th. For more information you can visit http://bit.ly/Q8gBjN.
