Students in the Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program at Ryerson University in downtown Toronto hosted another highly successful, well-attended annual Colloquium on Thursday, February 4. The popular event is an opportunity for industry professionals and current students to discuss relevant issues and connect with like-minded peers. The GCM Colloquium is an evening in which leading industry speakers are invited to discuss relevant topics in the printing industry. The event also offers networking opportunities, food and refreshments.
This year’s theme was React: Big Data, Big Possibilities in Print. Big Data is crucial in many industries today because it allows companies to take a closer look at who, when, why, and how consumers are connecting with their businesses. Leading industry speakers presented a variety of insightful topics on Big Data as a tool, specifically related to the printing industry. They included Sylvain Perrier (President and CEO of Mercatus Technologies), Ayse Basar Bener (Professor and Director of the Data Science Lab at Ryerson University), and Rishie Singh (Director of Data Mining at Rogers Media.) A panel discussion, question-and-answer session and a brief reception in the GCM lobby followed the presentations. Ryerson University’s School of Graphic Communications Management is located in the Heidelberg Centre, 125 Bond Street, in downtown Toronto. Congratulations to all those who organized this event as well as the speakers and those who attended.
