This year, the Ontario Printing and Imaging Association (OPIA) Safety Group earned significant rebates for all successful participating members. Since 2001, the OPIA has sponsored the most successful safety group in the industry, facilitating rebates in excess of $7 million for participating firms. This year was no exception. “The safety group is a smart investment because investing in health and safety and implementing an effective prevention program is good for business – and can earn you a rebate from the WSIB,” said OPIA President Tracey Preston. The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is an independent trust agency that administers compensation and no-fault insurance for Ontario workplaces.
Each year the OPIA leads a safety group that identifies a list of elements to target, and members select five that are aimed to improve the health and safety practices within their own companies. Employers learn how to address these elements at meetings where they share ideas and pool resources with other firms in the safety group. Most importantly, the group is print-specific – so whether you’re a printer or a supplier to the printing industry, you can join. At the end of the year, the group receives a rebate based on its success in addressing the safety elements that will help improve the efficiency of your in-shop health and safety program.
