View from the publisher – April 2017

This year marks our 20th anniversary. So how did we get here? Well, we began as an 8-page, 2-colour newsprint tabloid printed from our Newmarket, Ontario location with a circulation of about 4,500. We were one of eight competing publications at that time. Today we’re one of the leading trade publications for the printing and graphic communications industry in Canada – and I’m extremely grateful to our loyal advertising base and our dedicated staff who made this progress possible.
Published ten times a year and mailed to over 10,500 across Canada, our CMCA-audited, full-colour glossy publication has maintained a steady readership of over 40,000 and is complemented by a weekly e-newsletter that now goes to over 11,570 subscribers.
In just over a year and a half, our website traffic has gone from an average of 8,500 unique monthly visits to over 30,000. We feel that this, in part, is due to our aggressive promotion of news items and special advertiser offers on our social media channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook and other platforms. On top of that, we’ve been posting news items regularly before 7 am each day, to make it more convenient for you to catch up on what’s happening before you begin your busy workday. Our website (www.graphicartsmag.com) is also where you can subscribe to our free print and digital editions and free weekly e-newsletter.
I’m also happy to report that we’re continuing to add new writers and new columnists. In fact, in the past month alone, we’ve had no less than eight writers, with special industry expertise, asking to submit content and guest articles for both our website and our printed editions. I’d like to personally thank them for their interest in helping our readers with features on everything from wide format and 3D printing, to textile printing, design, marketing, e-commerce and much more. We’re delighted to add them to our team.
Speaking of teams, it was wonderful to see the youthful Toronto Maple Leafs in St. Patrick’s Day green playing the Chicago Blackhawks, then defeating the Boston Bruins by a score of 4-2 in their very next game.
While you’re at Graphics Canada, please stop by booth 5662, say hello, and subscribe to our free print and digital editions, as well as our free weekly e-newsletter. You can also enter our free draw for a fabulous prize.
As always, stay positive and stay focused.
