The Manroland Varioman F:line offset packaging press is a pilot that was recently showcased in Germany.

Varioman the name given to a newly conceived packaging printing press from German OEM Manroland Web Systems. The new press combines the benefits of varied technologies and processes while specifically avoiding the weak points inherent in other technologies while simultaneously providing exceptional customer benefits, said the OEM. The pilot press is an offset gravure hybrid press that prints foils and “provides the proven core competences of the Augsburg printing system – like mature design, system integration and service and maintenance packages. This new Varioman F:line was showcased before numerous customers and interested parties from around the globe from February 27 to March 1, 2018 at it manufacturing facility in Augsburg, Germany.
Manroland Web based the Varioman F:line on its decades of experience in offset printing. Its mixture of offset and gravure provides short make-ready and changeover times with reduced start-up waste rates achieved through high levels of automation and format flexibility. The new press is ideal for printing flexible foils for shrink-sleeve applications, as well as for a further array of substrates such as paper and aluminum foils. It ideally fits the production gap of medium-sized print runs with excellent offset printing technology and the cost benefits inherent in this technology, said the company. The special offset printing units have been developed with the cooperation partner Goebel GmbH.
Manroland Web added that this translates into the highest levels of flexibility for the customer – very important in modern packaging printing which must meet current demands of numerous job changeovers, short runs with many sub-jobs, and a large amount of on-demand runs. “Time is saved and costs are minimized due to its high degree of automation. At the same time, the combination of technologies, particularly the quality of the printed product from the offset side, combined with the benefits provided by gravure printing (in the areas of varnishing, adhesives and opaque white) provide the quality and differentiation that a modern package printing operation requires.”
