The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering at RWTH Aachen University (Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) has selected the five best companies in product and portfolio management, in cooperation with Complexity Management Academy GmbH and a high-profile industry consortium. The aim of the benchmarking project was to identify exceptionally successful methods, structures and processes in the systematic implementation of product and portfolio management. Five companies – Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg), Endress+Hauser Flowtec, Festo, Wittenstein Alpha, and Drägerwerk – were honoured as Successful Practices 2018 for their outstanding performance.
Over 10,000 participating companies were considered and eventually shortlisted to 148. A majority of the participating companies were from Germany. The others were headquartered in Europe and the USA. Following an in-depth screening process, the consortium partners identified the five companies above from the top performers. The consortium partners visited the selected companies and analyzed their methods, structures and processes in product and portfolio management on-site. Heidelberg received the award for its successful digitization of internal and external processes, as well as its implementation of success factors that were based on thinking from their customers’ point of view.
