Eva’s Phoenix Print Shop, located in downtown Toronto, is a full-service digital printer also dedicated to reducing youth homelessness while providing vocational and life skills. “When you print with us, you help prepare youth experiencing homelessness for employment in the graphics and print sector. We reinvest every dollar of profit into shelter, food, caring support, and basic needs for homeless youth at Eva’s,” the shop’s website notes. Eva’s also specializes in wide-print format printing as well as bindery services. Through its innovative profit-for-purpose social enterprise model, it helps homeless youth build better futures. Over 70% of its training-program students eventually get full-time work – and the shop also provides follow-up support to help students sustain that employment. Beginning September 24, Eva’s Phoenix Print Shop will be offering an 8-week training program where students will get hands-on experience in printing and learn various Adobe applications as well.
Eva’s Phoenix offers residences for 50 youths for up to 1 year, 10 townhouse-style units (private bedrooms and shared kitchens/living areas), shared teaching kitchen, housing and counseling support, educational programs and study spaces, employment training in construction and print and graphic communications, a Youth Succeeding in Employment Program, a Dress to Impress Studio for free career clothing, a Technology Training Centre, and programs to help with financial literacy, life skills, finding and keeping housing, cooking and nutrition, health, hygiene, conflict resolution and much more. Participants get their own bedroom with a key and access to shared spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens and study areas.
