Full Frame Signs (Etobicoke, Ontario), a leading family-owned print services provider, has expanded its capabilities with Fujifilm’s Acuity Select 28 UV Inkjet Press that can accommodate a wide range of creative print applications.
“We’re part of the film and television industry out of Toronto, and our finished products will appear on camera,” said Sean Vizsy, Owner and President. “The high quality output from the Acuity Select 28 is much more impressive compared to any other press in this category – and this flatbed also appeals to our other clients within various industries and markets.” The Acuity Select 20 Series features up to eight colour channels, including options to run white, varnish and now light inks – showcasing Fujifilm’s Uvijet KN ink as an ideal solution for a variety of output. The versatility of printing high quality, 1200-dpi (or greater) graphics on rigid, flexible and roll media gives printers additional opportunities to expand their offerings and ultimately their business. The combination of inks, varnishes and media options provides a myriad of solutions for sign and display customers, said the OEM.
In the world of film and television production, camera operators are constantly selecting and focusing on meaningful elements in the scene in front of them. Fujifilm entered the movie camera market in 2002. At that time, its engineers were understandably concerned about accommodating the different needs and culture of the motion picture industry. In contrast to the spontaneous world of TV, shooting a movie requires camera operators to capture scenes that are carefully planned in advance. Moreover, cinematic artists in highly specialized roles take ample time to get every detail perfect. Within the film and television industry, Full Frame Signs already had a positive impression of the Fujifilm brand through its high quality lenses. And Vizsy knew that furthering its existing partnership by acquiring a Fujifilm-branded flatbed press would be a wise investment.
“We’re very much a short-run or prototype-business, and we’re not managing large runs,” said Vizsy. “We work with smaller distribution channels, and with the Acuity Select 28, we’re experiencing upwards of 30% savings on labour costs – and that’s reapplied labour, not labour we’ve eliminated as we’ve re-allocated efforts to other areas, boosting productivity all-around.” Full Frame Signs outputs on a variety of rigid substrates for both indoor and outdoor use, including acrylic, PVC board, styrene, plastic sheets, and corrugated. “We’re using the Acuity Select 28 for all of our rigid substrate output, and white corrugated prints beautifully,” Vizsy added. “Often times our film and television clients provide their own substrates to print on, flexible or rigid, depending on their needs at any particular moment while on-set.”
Full Frame Signs is also utilizing Fujifilm’s edition of Caldera’s Grand RIP. It features an easy-to-use interface and adds the Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE), which allows the RIP to interpret the native PDF file to increase speed and eliminate problems with transparencies and layers. Additionally, Full Frame Signs is running Caldera on two existing eco-solvent presses for more streamlined staff on-boarding and project management. “Prior to acquiring the Acuity Select 28, we looked at other flatbeds,” Vizsy recalled. “None of them were at the same capacity, or even in the same ballpark as the Acuity Select 28.”
