The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA, Bohemia, New York) a leading member-based organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the flexographic printing process, has announced that it’s now accepting entries for its 2019 Sustainability Excellence Awards competition. The deadline for entry submissions is February 1, 2019. “The FTA is proud to honour its members for the advancements they’ve made in sustainability,” said Doreen Monteleone, Manager of FTA’s Sustainability Excellence Awards Program. “For nearly two decades, we’ve recognized the business practices and new technologies that have helped to shape and elevate flexographic printing as a more sustainable printing process.” In 2018, the FTA recognized Heritage Envelopes Limited, an international member from the United Kingdom, for its PackMail product. This “boxless” packaging alternative for shipping and storing envelopes keeps the product flat, safe from damage, reduces its environmental footprint, cuts back on waste, and lowers CO2 output and fuel consumption.
The Sustainability Excellence Awards competition is open to any stakeholder in the flexographic printing supply chain worldwide, whether an FTA member or not. This includes printers, suppliers, designers, prepress providers, educational facilities and print buyers. Entries will be judged in one of two categories: Sustainability Programs and Innovations in Sustainability. The first category includes programs implemented in a facility that have reduced the environmental impact of printing or have improved workers’ health or safety. The second category includes new technology, formulations or techniques that have reduced the environmental impact of printing or improved workers’ health or safety. Chartered in 1958, FTA is a professional society dedicated to bringing all members of the flexographic printing community – printers, suppliers, consumer product companies, institutions, pre-press houses and others – together by providing opportunities for the free exchange of technical ideas and discussion of mutual concerns. The organization is a proponent of maintaining and advancing quality standards, and includes 1,350 member sites that represent more than 35,000 individuals. Foundation of FTA, founded in 1974, is the educational arm of FTA and is dedicated to supporting and advancing the flexographic printing industry.
