Neenah launches a 100% paper-based alternative to styrene for wide format

Neenah (Alpharetta, Georgia) has introduced Neenah Imagemax Signage, a new, breakthrough 100% paper-based wide-format product. This latest addition to Neenah’s wide range of environmental products is FSC, Green-e, and SmartWay certified to meet the growing demand for a sustainable alternative to traditional styrene products. It’s basically a smooth-coated substrate designed to produce “remarkable printing results” using UV, UV-Gel, latex and screen-printing techniques. Available in all standard wide-format calipers, Neenah Imagemax Signage is ideal for applications such as hanging signage, point-of-purchase and point-of-sale signs, shelf-talkers and directional signage.

Jeremy Frank.

“Neenah is known in the marketplace for our environmental leadership and for producing top quality products,” said Jeremy Frank, Director of Sales and Marketing, Wide Format and Emerging Categories, at Neenah. “We’ve specifically engineered this product to the highest sustainability standards for paper-based signage with exceptional, long-lasting brightness. Our customers have been asking for an environmentally responsible styrene alternative, and we delivered in a big way with Neenah Imagemax Signage. Print service providers are responsible for ensuring that printed marketing messages are delivered beautifully, quickly and without excess waste. With our product, printers are assured maximum effectiveness with minimum waste. We’ve already had success with global brands using Neenah Imagemax Signage in recent marketing campaigns. We’re looking forward to more brands gaining the benefits of choosing environmentally-conscious signage as part of their overall marketing strategy,” Frank added.
Beyond its obvious environmental benefits, Neaenah Imagemax Signage is superior to styrene alternatives both on press and in the marketplace. Advantages include:

  • Static-free for smoother, faster printing and minimized nozzle drop-out
  • Up to 20% lighter that equals more savings on shipping
  • 94% brightness for clearer, longer-lasting image reproduction that won’t yellow
  • Dead white for double-sided printing
  • Ink absorption that allows for exemplary printing without banding
  • Faster cut times for improved production efficiency
  • No fingerprints – paper-based composition does not capture oils

The new product is showcased in an innovative visual reference resource that’s available now. Neenah created this tool using real-world UV printing conditions to show how Imagemax Signage is not only a responsible replacement for styrene, but how it improves workflow and elevates print quality for brands. The promotion includes printed samples of each caliper of this new paper-based signage, alongside a styrene sheet featuring special treatments – such as white ink, contour cutting, creasing, as well as more challenging printing scenarios – such as solid gray and gradients.
