Phoenix Challenge Competition postponed until May 2 – and will take place online

“With students’ and educators’ welfare and safety as top priorities with regard to creating successful career opportunities and educational programs for our industry, the Phoenix College Challenge Competition (Charlotte, North Carolina) has been postponed until May 2, 2020. Plus, the High School Skills Competition has been cancelled completely for this year,” said organizers. “With the ever-changing situation surrounding the COVID-19 virus and this week’s increased efforts to contain its spread, the Board of Phoenix Challenge Foundation (PCF) felt it necessary to not take any additional risk as well. The new college competition is now scheduled to take place Saturday, May 2, 2020. This year, however, online teams will make virtual presentations to a panel of judges. Plus, for the first time, the virtual format will welcome all guests to watch the student teams. Additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available,” said organizers.
The Phoenix Challenge Foundation added that new educational programs are being created to provide presses for start-up flexo printing programs across North America. So far in 2020, two presses are being installed to create two new programs in South Carolina and New York. Converters and printers across Canada and the U.S. agree that workforce development and building pressroom talent are their top concerns and priorities. These programs were designed specifically to address these concerns. “As a non-profit organization, support is critical,” said the PCF. “The organization needs the industry’s financial or volunteer support to continue this work. The PCF is seeking support from both converters and suppliers alike. Industry support will continue to benefit these very important initiatives.
