The Ford government is helping small businesses to defray the unexpected costs of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), according to Bonny Koabel (CPA, CGA), Graphic Arts Magazine columnist and expert in government funding. Koabel is also President of AKR Consulting Canada, a Mississauga, Ontario firm specializing in government grants, rebates, refunds, subsidies and tax credits. To be eligible for the one-time grant of up to $1,000 under Ontario’s new Main Street Relief Grant: PPE Support Program, your business must have 2 – 9 employees and be operating in one of the following sectors:
- Retail
- Accommodation and food services
- Repair and maintenance
- Personal and laundry services
Printers (commercial, quick-copy shops, print franchisees, printers in shopping malls, etc.) may be able to qualify under the retail category. Applicants will need to submit receipts or proof of costs for PPE purchased since March 17, 2020. This includes:
- Gloves, gowns, face shields, eye protection, masks, sanitizer, sanitizing wipes.
- Thermometers, temperature monitors or cameras.
- Physical changes, including the installation of hand sanitizer stations and plexiglass dividers.
- Signs to guide or inform customers and employees.
- General business information (e.g. business number as provided by the Canada Revenue Agency).
- Banking information (e.g. banking institution, account number, branch code)
