The Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund (CPISTF) recently established a scholarship to honour the late Warren Wilkins, a visionary leader in the Canadian printing industry who worked diligently to support emerging new talent for our industry.
“We’re pleased to announce that Samir Macklai, a first-year Ryerson University GCM (Graphic Communications Management) student, has been chosen to receive the $5,000 Warren Wilkins scholarship for the 2020/2021 academic year” said Jeff Ekstein, Chair of Canadian Print Scholarships. The scholarship provides special recognition to a particularly deserving student starting post-secondary studies toward a career in the graphic communications industry.
Warren Wilkins was a printing industry leader who started a successful book printing company called Webcom Limited over 35 years ago. Today, Toronto-based Webcom is a leading Canadian book manufacturer serving Canadian, U.S. and worldwide publishers by providing turnkey book printing solutions for global and independent book publishers alike. Wilkins died peacefully on November 3, 2016 at the age of 88.
“The credit for this accomplishment is attributed to my professors and peers for their support and guidance throughout the entire process,” Macklai insisted.
“Samir is a first-year Graphic Communications Management student who caught everyone’s attention,” said Tannisha Lambert, Program Manager for GCM at Ryerson University. “This is no small achievement given that this school year, we are distanced and delivering classes virtually.” The mission of the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund is to attract the brightest and best students to the print and graphic communications industry by providing financial assistance to enroll and continue in a post-secondary management or technical program at an approved educational institution.
