Knewton and HP pioneer new personalized print learning solutions

knewton+hp-inAdaptive learning specialist Knewton has unveiled Personalized Print Learning Solutions in collaboration with HP to make adaptive learning materials seamlessly available across both print and digital platforms. With Personalized Print Learning Solutions, publishers will be able to create adaptive educational materials – including personalized print chapters of textbooks, worksheets or assignments for schools and colleges – that primarily rely on printed textbooks. Students can learn using printed and/or digital adaptive content. Using Knewton and HP’s technology, educators can assign tailored content based on each student’s submitted work by scanning a printed worksheet with a smartphone.

“Knewton’s mission is to personalize learning materials for students wherever they are and however they access content,” said Knewton Founder and CEO José Ferreira. “We’ve been known up until now for computer adaptive learning, but we’re now adding Personalized Print Learning Solutions to our capabilities. People have always assumed it was impossible to individually personalize printed education materials. With our new HP collaboration, we’re delighted to show the world that print materials can have just as much adaptive power as digital content.”
Publishers and schools globally use Knewton adaptive learning technology to personalize content. Until now, this technology has been available only for digital courses. With Personalized Print Learning Solutions, Knewton and HP will help bridge this digital divide. The Solution is currently under development for release during the 2015-2016 school year. With the new solution, teachers and professors can assign print materials tagged by HP Link technology. Once a student completes his or her work, the student or teacher scans it with a smartphone app that was developed based on HP mobile scanning technology.
From there, Knewton considers the student’s past work, analyzes the new information, and determines useful strategies from the data of similar students to recommend content that the student should work on next. Knewton then assembles a new individualized content package or textbook chapter in real time for that student. HP Inkjet Web Press and HP Indigo digital printing technology makes it possible for students to have a chapter printed and delivered to their school or doorstep, while web-connected HP printers make it possible to print personalized worksheets locally in the classroom or at home.
