Cowan Graphics, a family-owned business for 75 years headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta (with offices in Calgary and Saskatoon), has added an Inca OnsetX3 HS wide-format inkjet printer from Fujifilm North America. The company provides businesses of all sizes with an extensive array of corporate branding services – including building signage, vehicle wraps and graphics, indoor and outdoor banners, murals, decals, retail and event signage, specialty items and much more. The addition of Fujifilm’s OnsetX3 HS (High Speed) inkjet has allowed Cowan Graphics to further diversify its product offerings including packaging (specifically regarding the ability to print on corrugated boards) while also developing free-standing display units, short-run specialty packaging, and much more. This has enabled the company to handle new and unique requests from current and new customers, accelerating business growth.

“As one of the largest digital and screen-printing companies in Canada, we monitor industry trends and adapt practices to identify ways to help improve our customers printing and packaging needs,” said Blaine MacMillan, President and Co-owner. “We’re pleased to service our customers via Fujifilm’s OnsetX3 HS, which allows us to print high volume, quality images onto a wide variety of media. It’s important to have the right technology available that can keep up with market demand, and that can also offer diverse products, personalized prints, packaging and display options with fast turnaround times.” As customer deadlines continue to shorten and requests for personalized services expand, finding a high-quality, efficient and reliable printer that could produce images on a wide variety of media was critical for the long-term growth of Cowan Graphics.
“With our engineering, fabrication, installation and graphic design teams in place, Cowan Graphics had most of the right resources to push the envelope with our offerings,” MacMillan added. “However, we needed a reliable printing solution to keep up with our expansion efforts and also be able to create new, diverse offerings that would appeal to our customers. It was important for our business to invest in the right printing solution – and we knew Fujifilm would be the right partner for us. In accommodating the diverse offerings of fast-turnaround, short-run work, the OnsetX3 HS has more than stood up to the challenge. The increase in overall productivity, made possible by advances in printing speed and quality thanks to the Fujifilm OnsetX3 HS, has allowed Cowan Graphic customers to stand out among the crowd with unique graphic solutions.”
Fujifilm’s OnsetX3 HS can produce one of the widest ranges of POP graphics – from everyday signage to the highest quality backlit displays for demanding markets such as cosmetics and luxury goods. Inca Vision remote diagnostics allows users to maintain optimum performance while reducing downtime. Onset technology also delivers “the smoothest, single-hit whites, with the industry’s best opacity,” said the OEM. Key to this flexibility (and unique among high-end, large-format flatbed printers) is the 14-channel design of every OnsetX. And because Inca has engineered modularity into the Onset platform, upgrades can be carried out onsite and completed in just a few days. Other notable features include increased productivity, faster automated media handling and 30-second set-up with automated features and reduced operator intervention. All models in the OnsetX1, X2 HS and X3 HS ranges are available with a variety of handling options for larger substrates of up to 126.8” x 63” (3.22 m x 1.6 m) and thicknesses up to 1.8″ (46 mm).
