John Hume, President of Hume Media, one of Canada’s largest full-service digital and print media companies with two locations in Toronto, Ontario, has added Xerox’s new Brenva HD Production Inkjet Press to grow the short-run to mid-run, colour digital print segment of his business. “We do over a million digital colour impressions monthly now, but we’ll be able to triple that with the Brenva,” he said. “We’ll also increase our competitiveness when printing books approaching volumes of 1,000 per title. In the short-run segment, Brenva will make us faster, more productive and more cost-effective without sacrificing the quality our clients expect – with pricing that’s very competitive.” The shop is based exclusively on Xerox digital press technology and the Brevna HD installation is the first in the world.
According to printing industry marketing research company InfoTrends, production colour inkjet print will account for 57% of the total production of digital colour page volume by 2019. “To help print providers capitalize on inkjet’s growing momentum, the Xerox Brenva HD Production Inkjet Press combines the cost-effectiveness of inkjet with the flexibility of cut-sheet to address the needs of print providers in the light direct-mail, transactional and book markets,” said Xerox.
Incorporating many of the paper-path components of the Xerox iGen platform, Brenva offers “best-in-class automation and reliability features to maximize press productivity” including:
- An inline spectrophotometre to assist with calibration and profiling
- Object-oriented colour management to distinguish text, graphics and images while optimizing the image quality of each
- K-only Mode so it can run as a cost-effective monochrome press
“As inkjet technology continues to expand, more applications will open up, as will new opportunities for clients like Hume Media – an innovator in the production print market – to build their businesses and add more variety to their client offerings,” said Brad King, Vice President, Graphic Communications Operations, Xerox Canada.
“Up until now, digital inkjet technology was for printers that focused on high-volume jobs. The Brenva effectively addresses the shorter-run segment of the market and is a perfect fit for print shops of all sizes in Canada,” he added.
