Design Label Systems (DLS, Mississauga, Ontario), an integrated product ID and label solutions provider with regional dominance and national reach in the pressure-sensitive label industry, is reporting a positive impact on its business after acquiring a Durst Tau 330 Digital UV Label Press six months ago. After extensive research, DLS managers identified the 7-colour Tau 330 with inline SMAG finishing system as its machine of choice, citing significant anticipated savings as well as faster turnarounds.
“The Tau has already drastically reduced time spent on prepress tasks,” said DLS Vice President Imran Faruqui. “It creates highly accurate proofs and provides tremendous ink laydown, which has allowed us to get into more demanding markets.” We’ve been using the Tau 330 primarily for shorter runs with very high quality output,” said DLS Marketing & Sales Director Adam Faruqui. “Pharmaceuticals, beauty and cosmetics, wine labels – these are markets we could not have competed in with traditional printing,” he added. “Digital is perfect for them, and it has already paid off.” Founded 26 years ago, Design Label Systems is a leader in Canada’s pressure-sensitive label market. The 75-employee company provides label and packaging solutions to a wide range of industries from its 25,000-square-foot facility in Mississauga – including food, household products, health and beauty, wine and spirits, pharmaceutical, petrochemicals and manufacturing.
The Durst Tau 330 Digital UV Label Press can be integrated with any third-party finishing system – conventional or digital – making it “one of the most versatile solutions on the market,” said the OEM. “It requires no inline priming to handle industry-standard substrates, and is compatible with a wide range of specialty films and foils. Designed for short-run and medium-run narrow web applications, covering widths from 16.5-33.0 cm (6.5-13.0 in.), and running at speeds up to 48m (157 ft.) per minute, output capacity can reach 950 sm (10,225 sq. ft.) per hour. Sharp, precise print quality is made possible by Durst’s proprietary UV inkjet printhead technology featuring advanced drop-on-demand variable drop size, and grayscale capabilities that deliver a print resolution of 720 x 1,260 dpi – which generates highly defined texts and intricate details in all graphics and images.
