Lorpon Labels doubles food-packaging capacity by installing an HP Indigo 6900 Press

Lorpon Labels of Toronto has doubled its digital label production capacity with a new HP Indigo 6900 Digital Press, improving agility to deliver labels with fast turnarounds to support a recent upswing in demand for food packaging. The converter – a major supplier to the wine and spirits, beverage, beer, food and cosmetics industries – has experienced nearly a 70% increase in orders during the pandemic, as food suppliers scramble to restock store shelves. Founded in 1985, the company has been providing high quality labels and packaging solutions for a variety of applications – including product labels, shipping labels, blank labels and flexible packaging. The shop also works with a wide array of industries including retail, health and beauty, manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceutical, and many others.

“Covid-19 brought unexpected demand for labels. The addition of another press gives us flexibility and allows us to continue to deliver fast turnaround times in a period of dynamic supply chains,” said Jeff Sommer, Vice-President of Business Development. Lorpon also operates and HP Indigo WS6800 and a flexo presses. The HP Indigo 6900 is a new-generation press for labels and packaging featuring a powerful print server for high productivity, variable-data processing and colour matching. Its digital front end offers up to five times faster RIP power for more jobs per day to facilitate faster turnaround times. “Our partnership with HP offers the ability to serve new and existing customers in a manner we cannot achieve with any other technology. Adding to our fleet was the best path to successful growth,” Sommer added.
With digital printing, Lorpon has shifted its business plan from providing industrial commodity labels to a supplier that can compete as provider for global brands. “We gave small-to-medium-size businesses the chance to compete with big global brands – and over time, these brands grew and brought big brands to us,” Sommer said, adding the HP Indigo 6900 can match rotogravure while delivering “the best print registration in the industry.” The media range of the HP Indigo, able to print on textured wine papers and special substrates such as metallic and wood veneer, is especially appealing to the wine and beverage industry. The HP Indigo 6900 can also be upgraded with the latest features of the new HP Indigo 6K Digital Press.
