Agfa and MGI Ceradrop partner to develop Printed Electronics components and solutions

Agfa Specialty Products and MGI Digital Technology have inked a strategic development agreement focused on the Printed Electronics (PE) industry. The objective is to combine MGI Digital Technology’s industrial engineering with Agfa’s chemical research to develop and launch the world’s first comprehensive industrial inkjet solutions for the Printed Electronics market. With this alliance, the companies are targeting the growing global demand for printed electronic components and solutions.
mgiagfape-inPrinted Electronic market opportunities are considerable, with many growth areas and applications already identified worldwide – from the Internet of Things (IoT) to energy harvesting, to the security and biomedical industries. For the first time, two major international industrial groups will combine their respective strengths to focus on a PE market segment that’s still primarily being served by start-ups – most of whose products are currently in the developmental stage.
As part of this partnership, MGI Digital Technology and its subsidiary, Ceradrop, will bring their industry expertise and strengths in inkjet technology equipment development, while Agfa Specialty Products will contribute its experience in conductive inks. These combined strengths that span the entire product value chain – including equipment, inks, operational processes and global support – will be a key asset for the successful development of new solutions, said the two companies. They added that this fully integrated approach will also generate important competitive advantages and will address the full range of business issues regarding PE pricing models and ROI considerations that will be critical moving forward.
Finally, by building this exclusive agreement on natural technical synergies and strong corporate commitments, MGI Digital Technology and Agfa Specialty Products “will take a major step forward in the development and production of truly innovative industrial inkjet-based solutions for the world’s Printed Electronics marketplace.”
