Print World preview

North America’s largest printing trade show for shorter-run printing will take place November 17-19 in Toronto. Over 200 exhibitors will display their products and technologies for the key shorter-run market. Thousands of qualified buyers will come to comparison shop, network, take home new ideas and product literature, attend seminars and live demonstrations, and make crucial investment decisions. We’ll be walking the floor meeting exhibitors and will give you a full report in our next issue.

By strictly limiting the size of offset presses on exhibit to a 29-inch (4-up to 6-up sheet size) and smaller, Print World focuses exhibitor and visitor interest solely on this growing market. The show attracts visitors from small and mid-size commercial shops, quick printers, corporate in-plants, print-on-demand shops, prepress shops, digital printers, print brokers and forms distributors. Larger printers with interests in short-run work also attend.

“Our lineup this year promises colourful commentary, hard facts, reliable assessments of technology and news that impacts print operations. In short, there’s something of value for everyone,” says Sandy Donald, Print World Show Manager. Warren Werbitt, President of Pazazz Printing in Montreal, will open the expanded conference programs of Print World with a keynote address on Sunday, Nov. 18 that touches on two of his favourite themes – making clients aware of how necessary print is to the success of their businesses, and resisting selling print on price only.

Peter Cober (President of Cober Evolving Solutions), Ward Griffin (CEO of Lowe-Martin Group) and Rich Pauptit (President of Flash Reproductions), will be keynote speakers Nov. 18 at Print World’s Case Study Theatre. The Case Study Theatre, a popular addition at the last Print World show, provides a chance to hear how other printers have managed to grow their companies under difficult economic conditions. Access to the Theatre is free with show admission.

Some other must-sees are: All Graphic Supplies showcases its large-format solutions in its return to Print World with a selection of equipment from Roland, Mimaki, EFI Rastek, RiteLam, Rollsroller, Techwin and Royal Sovereign, among others; reflective neon inks will debut at The Drawing Centre’s booth as it showcases its line of Seiko large-format printers. Other Product debuts include the world’s fastest digital label press from PDS Pressdown and the Canadian debut of Ricoh’s new Pro L4000 wide-format latex printer. Sydney Stone’s booth is also a must-see with several remarkable print-finishing solutions, including the Canadian debut of the new Morgana DocuMaster Pro set feeder.

Pitney Bowes returns to Print World with its biggest booth ever exhibiting the FlowMaster RS Flex inserter, which can process up to 16,000 pieces of mail per hour. Océ Canada Inc. also returns with its leading-edge, wide-format print solutions. Be sure to visit the booth of Hall Photographic, a company that started as a small camera shop in Toronto in 1957 and was later re-named Treck Hall after it merged with Treck Photographic in the 1980s.

Global press leader KBA returns to Print World with drupa innovations to highlight its advanced line of offset presses. The company offers a complete range of sheetfed offset presses from small (360 mm x 520 mm) to super-large format (1510 mm x 2050 mm) for commercial printing and finishing, books and packaging. Its leading sheetfed brands include the Genius and Rapida.

Print World will also host the first-ever Dscoop (Digital Solutions Cooperative) meeting in Canada. As well, industry expert Frank Romano will offer his not-to-be-missed take on drupa 2012. Romano, professor emeritus from RIT, will give his special presentation at on Sunday, November 18. Admittance is free with your Print World badge.

Print World’s always popular on-floor feature areas include Postal World, Sign World, Packaging & Label World, Publishing World, Print Possibilities Theatre, Design City, Chinese Pavilion, International Pavilion and UPEX. Print World has also gone to great lengths to assist exhibitors, including updated exhibitor co-marketing programs for registering more qualified buyers, an expanded promo code program to drive more traffic and more qualified leads, improved lead-retrieval system to boost follow-up sales, and an expanded marketing campaign to emerging print markets.

Many of our industry’s most successful printers, say Print World organizers, have succeeded because they have recognized the market shift to shorter runs and more colour. They are investing in new shorter-run technology, staying abreast of change, focusing on customer needs, and instituting smart business and marketing plans including more online integration and mobile marketing. Large corporations and institutions are also increasingly recognizing the importance of well-managed and responsive corporate print departments using the latest technology. These are the printers and organizations that will survive and thrive, says Print World. More information: www.printworldshow.com.

Here is a glimpse of selected companies and what they’ll be featuring at their booths. If we had the room, we’d include every exhibitor. Enjoy the show. And please stop by the Graphic Arts Magazine booth and say hello.
