It happens every four years, and it’s one of the most exciting events in the printing and graphic communications industry worldwide. Spring is on the not-so-distant horizon, and so is drupa. The world’s largest printing industry tradeshow is set for May 31 to June 10 in Düsseldorf, Germany – and we’re already presenting several helpful “drupa expert” features written by some of the best minds in our industry on our website (www.graphicartsmag.com) leading up to this year’s big event.
At press time, we have already posted several fascinating features, including what the commercial printer and publisher of tomorrow must do to be successful, a look into the pioneering technologies that are pushing the creative limits of packaging print today, and a close examination at the state of the art in inkjet technology. These are comprehensive articles that look at the industry not just locally or nationally, but on a global level. I’m confident they’ll give you a good background on what’s happening as you look for ideas to boost your business in 2016 and beyond. Future articles will include the latest in post-press and finishing technology, sustainability and the printing industry, the turbulent digital transformation, and the growth and challenges of the wide format printing sector.
Once again, this issue has several timely features, starting with Edith Sevigny-Martel’s page 11 examination of the resurgence of direct mail, why it’s still relevant and where it’s headed. If you thought printed direct mail is dying, you’d better think again! On page 16, columnist Diana Varma examines how we can shape a more sustainable future. She delves into some hugely successful recycling and reuse programs currently being used in today’s packaging industry.
With the federal Liberals about to enter their new fiscal year on April 1 (it seems odd to begin a fiscal year on April Fool’s Day!), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his December Throne Speech insisted that his government will focus on growing the economy, creating jobs, strengthening the middle class, and so on. With this in mind, our government funding specialist Elliot Schiller expects that funding programs will be available to help your business expand. On page 20, he’ll explain how to prepare yourself and when to act to access this anticipated money.
Finally, we would like to welcome the latest member to our Graphic Arts Magazine family – the beautiful Catrina Helen Dedopoulos who weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. on Monday, February 1. Congratulations to proud parents George and Christine.
