View from the publisher – Feb 2015

The weather may be freezing across Canada as you read this, but it seems that the printing industry is just starting to warm up. Again this month there is no shortage of news, trends, new products and new technologies. In the months to come you can expect news from every sector of the industry, especially emerging industries such as Printed Electronics, 3D printing and packaging – and as usual we’ll deliver them to you. For example, be sure to check out Jason Lisi’s lead article on sustainable packaging, especially with Earth Day looming April 22, as well as Peter Dulis’ story on 3D printers.
April promises to be an especially busy month. Registration has opened for the annual ISA International Sign Expo April 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Early Bird Registration is available until February 27. ISA members and members of ISA-Affiliated Associations, including those in Canada, receive discounts and admission to special events. Last year’s show attracted over 18,000 attendees and 580 exhibitors. We’ll give you a full preview and wrap-up.
We’ll also be front-and-center at Graphics Canada, Canada’s largest and longest-running printing tradeshow April 16-18, 2015 at The International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Rest assured we’ll continue to keep you up-to-date on events and features, and give you a full preview and wrap-up. Please be sure to stop by booth 2011 at the top of Hall 2, say hello, and enter our free draw for a fabulous prize.
The Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association (CPEIA) will be hosting the 2015 Canadian Printed Electronics Symposium in Montreal for the very first time. The workshop-style event takes place in Montreal April 21-22. The CPEIA is hosting the symposium in partnership with the National Research Council of Canada and Quebec’s Printability and Graphic Communications Institute. We’ll have it covered for you.
Speaking of coverage, Graphic Arts Magazine has released the first native iPad and Android apps for our magazine. Download it today and stay up-to-date whenever you like and wherever you are 24/7.
As we head into another challenging year, I’d also like to thank all of our advertisers and readers for their ongoing support – as well as our editorial contributors and regular columnists for their hard work, as they continue to give helpful and timely information and advice on printing and print-related topics every month. I wish all of you a prosperous 2015.
As always, stay positive and stay focused.
