Toronto-based DuraFast Label is now shipping the Unwinder and Rewinder System for the Epson GP-C831 GHS Label Printer. Pairing the label printer with the new unwinder/rewinder results in a complete, extremely economical GHS label production solution that helps to automate label production.
“The Epson GP-C831, or ColorWorks C831 as it’s also known, provides the best value for printing durable GHS labels,” said Basat Khalifa, DuraFast President (pictured previously). “The system allows you to print from roll-to-roll. It gently feeds the blank labels into the rear of the printer and then gently rewinds the finished labels onto a separate roll. Roll-to-roll printing improves efficiency by producing a roll of printed labels that can be placed immediately into a label applicator. The labels are then ready to be applied to the products,” he added.
Both the unwinder and rewinder units can be used individually. If a user has a box of fan-fold label sheets, they can be fed into the rear of the Epson C831 as usual, but re-wound onto a finished label roll as the labels emerge from the printer. Users can also place a large roll of blank labels on the unwinder and then print labels one at a time, or in small batches, in a “print and present” process.
According to Khalifa, the label printer is commonly used to print large-format chemical drum labels. With its wide-format and tractor feeder system, managing output can often be problematic. “Printing straight from a fan-fold box of labels is fine for short print runs,” he said. “But when you print hundreds of labels at once, someone needs to be there to make sure the sheets fold back upon themselves properly. This unwinder and rewinder system solves that problem as well as allowing for roll-to-roll printing.” The system works with DuraFast’s fanfold sheets and label rolls with a width of up to 9.5 inches and an outside diameter of up to 9.84 inches.
