MCT Digital (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) has released a new mid-level flatbed cutter, its VersaTech2, for package prototyping and short-run to medium-run production. The new systems can accommodate cutting areas of 1.6m, 2.5m, or 3.2m widths by 1.6m, 3.2m and 4.8m lengths. They can also be configured as flatbed cutters without automation for prototyping, or (with the addition of board feeding, conveying and offloading capabilities), can be used as an efficient short-run packaging solution. They offer industry-leading speed and accuracy – up to 78 inches per second and 1.25g acceleration. Included in the flatbed systems are the most utilized knife and creasing tools, along with a full cutting mat underlayment.

“No longer will it be necessary to forego speed or accuracy when making an initial foray into flatbed cutting, or be required to add additional cutting capacity in a short period of time,” said Nikolai Mikkelsen, MCT Founder and CTO. The VersaTech2 can also be fitted with an extended conveyor to improve offloading capabilities. They’re also capable of incorporating MCT’s unique laser solution. Through a patent-pending dual conveyor solution incorporating an aluminized laser belt as well as a traditional mat conveyor, the VersaTech2 “is the only system worldwide that can provide full automation with conveying for laser, router, and knife cutting on a single installation,” the OEM added.
MCT Digital invented digital die cutting in 1999, and has manufacturing facilities in New Berlin, Wisconsin. The company sells directly into Canada and the U.S. as well as through distributors in Latin America, Australia, India, New Zealand, Italy and Scandinavia – supporting over 1,200 customers worldwide with application expertise as well as cutting blades, router bits and cutting mats and conveyors. The new VersaTech2 will be showcased at the SGIA tradeshow October 18-20, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with live demonstrations at booth 417 and at the CutGuru.com booth 710.
