Reminder: January 5 is deadline for Second Annual Better with Less – Design Challenge submissions

The deadline to submit entries for the second annual Better with Less – Design Challenge, organized by Metsä Board, the European producer of premium fresh fibre paperboards, is approaching. Entries must be received by Sunday, January 5, 2020. Now in its second year, the competition inspires packaging designers as well as packaging design students all over the world, to create more sustainable packaging solutions that offer better brand experiences with less environmental impact. Submissions are being accepted in 4 categories: Cosmetics, E-commerce, Food Packaging and a ‘Wild Card’ category – with cash prizes for first, second and third place of 7,000, 2,000 and 1,000 Euros respectively. There is no entry fee. Plus, Metsä Board will award one student the opportunity for an internship with its packaging design team in its Excellence Center in Äänekoski, Finland. The winners will be announced in the Spring of 2020.
The first Better with Less – Design Challenge received over 300 entries from 38 countries and the winning design was a paperboard alternative to plastic bubble wrap. Stefan Junge, Professor in Packaging Technology at Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, and a member of the jury panel, is looking forward to exploring this year’s entries. “I was amazed by last year’s winning concept, because it was using less material with no die-cut waste and with very smart 3D-bending performance. It will be difficult to top that in this year’s challenge, but I am very excited to see inspiring new ideas,” he said. To submit your entries, please visit www.betterwithless.org.
