Ryerson University’s annual Graphic Communications Management (GCM) Job Fair event in downtown Toronto is an opportunity for employers to network and interview enthusiastic students seeking summer internships or full-time career positions. This year’s Job Fair took place Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (Old Maple Leaf Gardens, 50 Carlton Street, Toronto).
Registered participants arrived around 3:30 pm and graduate interviews began at 4 p.m. Dinner was served between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Intern interviews began promptly at 7 p.m. and the final round of interviews ended at 9 p.m.
Seventy-two companies interviewed about 170 GCM students in total for third-year internships and fourth-year career positions, with many companies looking to fill multiple positions. Companies reported that they were impressed with the professionalism, preparedness and attitude of all Ryerson GCM students who participated. GCM Chair Ian Baitz reported that, while 70 graduating (fourth-year) students were interviewed, about the same number already had jobs lined up – most stemming from their third-year internships. About 95 third-year students seeking internships were interviewed, and another 30 will seek internships this Fall, he added. Special thanks to the many students who volunteered to assist with this event, and to Ryerson’s GCM staffers who also worked very hard to make it a success once again.
“Having participated in Ryerson’s GCM Job Fair for many years now, I’m extremely impressed by the incredible amount of talent and ambition of both the graduates and the interns,” said Brian Meshkati, Vice President at leading Canadian trade printer SinaLite in Markham, Ontario. “They bring a completely fresh perspective to the industry and they’ve convinced me that our industry’s future is extremely bright.”
