Trotec releases beta version of Ruby – its newest laser software

Trotec Laser (Plymouth, Michigan), a specialist in laser engraving and cutting machines, has released the open beta version of Ruby – its new-generation of laser workflow software. “The new platform raises the bar in laser software by providing the most simple and fast workflow, from idea to product,” said the company. Designed to support efficient processing of jobs, Ruby will provide users with a connected, web-based set-up with a new user interface to assist customers.
“Thanks to a connected, web-based and digital-to-the-core set-up, this technology will offer laser users unmatched added value and will be setting new standards,” said Dr. Andreas Penz, Managing Director of Trotec Laser GmbH. “Trotec makes the work of every single laser user simpler, faster and more profitable. The basis for this vision is our numerous innovations since the company was founded over 20 years ago, and now it’s time to take the next step.”

Ruby offers a more seamless and efficient workflow by integrating several editing and design tasks into the software – in some cases even replacing the need for third-party software. Some of these tasks include editing object layers, line widths and text, and several design tasks – such as adding photos, and adding and editing text elements – without the need for additional graphic design software. Other efficiency-boosting features include the ability to set up multiple jobs with multiple materials on the bed at same time, and the ability to drag and drop files directly into the software instead of using the “Printer Driver” JobControl workflow. Trotec Ruby will also connect all laser devices in one network, locally or in the cloud.
Users will be able to distribute jobs to multiple machines from a PC or Mac, and jobs will be loaded onto the laser machine’s integrated memory and processed without an additional PC. Due to its enhanced workflow, jobs can be prepared by one user and produced by another at any time and from any location. Ruby also breaks new ground in user management with its integrated, splitable workflow and different roles and rights. Penz added that the Ruby software platform is also a much more customizable software solution that’ll not just allow laser users to increase efficiency. It will also include more options to support the unique and changing needs of modern businesses by providing features and options they need to take advantage of new growth opportunities in both the short term and the long term.
