Last October, Direct Printing Impressions (DPI, West Caldwell, NJ) installed a new Speedmaster CD 102-6+L with X-Package from Heidelberg. Since then, the commercial printer has improved productivity by 40% – and expects to see additional efficiency increases in the near future. The new CD 102-X replaced an older CD 102 installed in 2001. According to President Rich Luggiero, the CD 102 has provided tremendous speed, stability and profitability throughout its pressroom. “After the success of our first CD 102 Press, we knew that this machine was perfect for our business,” said Luggiero. “However, to stay competitive, we needed newer technology to keep us on the leading-edge. This prompted our decision to explore newer press models, specifically the CD 102 with X-Package.” The newly enhanced Speedmaster CD 102 with X-Package is the best-selling press in the 70×100 format with more CD 102 units installed than any other model worldwide. With an annual capacity of around 40 million sheets, the Speedmaster CD 102-X increases productivity from between 25% to 50% over older generation CD 102s as well as new competitive presses, said Heidelberg.
Several factors played into DPI’s decision to purchase the CD 102-X over competitive models. “We can produce at maximum speeds without compromising quality, maintain our 20% annual growth, and most importantly, gain greater cost savings compared to other models – it’s a win for us and a win for our customers,” Luggiero added. “We also appreciate the level of integration that Heidelberg provides, and we benefit from streamlining our business with their mix of consumables, service support, workflow and equipment. Heidelberg’s commitment to providing end-to-end solutions aligns with DPI’s dedication to offer high quality and competitive pricing for our customers.”
The CD 102-X currnetly serves as DPI’s foundation of production, and runs alongside a Speedmaster SM 102, as well as a range of Stahlfolder and Polar postpress solutions. To further promote performance and cost savings, Direct Printing also utilizes Heidelberg’s Saphira consumables, such as inks and coatings, as well as Prinect workflow, to optimize production and reduce touchpoints. Founded in 1990, Direct Printing Impressions is a family-owned shop with years of experience in serving the full range of printing needs – from creative concept to final delivery. Its high quality standards have earned DPI a well-respected reputation in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut).
