Canon U.S.A. has released its imageFormula ScanFront 400 Networked Document Scanner. Offering a user-friendly touchscreen interface and intuitive features to improve ease-of-use, the scanner can capture, convert and share documents to improve collaboration and productivity in networked environments. The device is also the first in the scanner category to receive an EPEAT Gold rating, the definitive global environmental rating system for electronics managed by the Green Electronics Council, said the OEM. EPEAT considers environmental criteria from the full product lifecycle – from design to production to end of life. The ScanFront 400 handles applications across a variety of industries and vertical markets – including finance, legal services, retail, manufacturing and healthcare – to allow users to better collaborate and share information locally and remotely.
“Collaboration and sharing of information are an integral part of many operations across a variety of different business settings,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, Executive VP nd GM, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. “Businesses who rely on information distribution across a network expect to do so in a secure and easy manner. Canon’s imageFormula ScanFront 400 is not only environmentally friendlier than products that do not meet EPEAT’s criteria, but also helps users handle their paper-based information more efficiently and meet expectations to better serve their business needs.”
The new scanner has a high-definition 10.1” colour touchscreen that can be used to preview digitized documents during the scanning process to help ensure that information is captured correctly. Users can easily choose from a variety of scan destinations to help distribute information to various locations. It can display pre-configured job buttons for frequently-used scan operations, and also create address books to pre-register scan destinations of various types (or simply connect to an existing LDAP directory service). The ScanFront 400 can scan both sides of a document in a single pass at up to 45 pages per minute, is capable of processing up to 6,000 documents per day, and features an automatic document feeder that fits up to 60 sheets, making it ideal for batch scanning. It can also handle a variety of document types of different sizes and consistencies – including receipts, driver licenses, photographs, invoices, contracts, and even passports (using an optional carrier sheet). Users can send scanned documents to email, a shared folder, fax, USB drive, FTP server or printer, individually or simultaneously.
The ScanFront Administrator tool, included with the device, allows IT managers and professions to manage up to 1,000 ScanFront devices remotely through centralized management capabilities. IT managers can view status, update device firmware, back-up and restore configurations and more, to help ensure that all ScanFront devices in the scanner fleet are configured uniformly and are functioning properly. The ScanFront 400 features login device access and also supports Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP over SSL (LDAPS), to help provide secure user authentication.
