Insource, a Canadian leader in mailing & fulfillment, printing and packaging solutions, held another Meet, Eat and Learn Day recently in downtown Toronto. This was another event in the Markham-Ontario-based company’s successful initiatives to bring the latest technology to printers “in their own backyards”. The event featured seminars and demonstrations of some exciting new products from RISO by Andre D’Urbano, National Sales Manager for Canada, who described the unique features and benefits of the RISO ComColor FW5230 and ComColor X1 Series of compact inkjet printers.
The FW5230 – a fifth-generation inkjet system from RISO – is aimed at corporate offices where some departments incur heavy print volumes. But it’s also ideal for traditional printing facilities such as in-plant graphics departments based on its 120-page-per-minute printing speed in full colour. The highest-end X1 system on the market can hit speeds of up to 150 ppm in full colour.
“RISO remains as one of the only large vendors to supply a low-investment, cut-sheet inkjet engine,” said D’Urbano. “At drupa 2016, only a few vendors showcased cut-sheet inkjet systems for less than $1 million, whereas the RISO systems are priced well under $100,000 – typically between $30,000 and $90,000 depending on configuration. This is the way to go for anyone looking to test the Inkjet market.”
During the seminar, D’Urbano also highlighted the no-heat advantages of inkjet printing relative to toner, which traditionally needs to fuse its toner images to paper at about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. “The no-heat process of inkjet provides not only significant uptime benefits, but also an ability to work with a greater range of applications – from NCR to envelopes to Tyvek materials – because there is no curling of materials from added heat,” he said. “The FW series, for example, can print about 80 envelopes per minute for a cost of about $18 per 1,000, and this means any size of envelope including window envelopes.”
Also attending the event were Insource’s technical support team and reps from the printing trade media. Another special guest was Richard Mroczek from St. Bruno, Quebec, Field Development Services Specialist for paper supplier Appvion. Appvion creates product solutions through its development and use of coating formulations and applications. The Wisconsin-based company produces thermal, carbonless, security, inkjet, digital, specialty and coloured papers.
