OPIA members to benefit substantially from merger of PIA and SGIA as event cancellations continue

Tomorrow, on May 1, 2020, the Printing Industries of America (PIA) will be officially merging with the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA). And because the Ontario Printing & Imaging Association (OPIA) is an affiliate member of the PIA, the organization will now look to the newly formed version of the SGIA for the services it used to offer through PIA. This will be the first time that the SGIA will have an affiliate structure of membership.

“We’ll continue discussions with the SGIA over the summer to learn about the many new benefits and services they can offer to our membership – and they should be substantial and make a huge difference,” said Tracey Preston, OPIA President. “Also, we have cancelled our South Western Ontario (SWOB) Golf Tournament this year. However, our Toronto Golf Classic Tournament is still scheduled for August 13, 2020 at the Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton, Ontario. We’ll update everyone with more information on that, as we learn more in the next few weeks.”
Also, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the PIA has decided to postpone its Premier Print Awards for this year. Therefore, the OPIA’s Excellence in Print Awards will also be postponed until next year, said the organization. “If you have submitted awards prior to the deadline of March 25, 2020, we’ll be getting back to you regarding instructions for participation in the 2021 competition,” Preston added.
